9-19-19 stripping old & adding new on the RDS-12

The following show some progress on my project.

To find room for the Rail Pro module is to replace the plastic light conductors with LED’s. I prefer LED’s with the the proper resister included in the circuit.
Because the lights and the number board glass are all part of the light directing glass in the original configuration, these glass segments will be used in the upgrade. The light directing. Parts are cut as shown in the picture. The long pieces will be discarded.
The LED quality and brightness are tested as shown in the picture. This shows the LED works and has adequate brightness as received.
This picture shows the electrical wiring elements in the base model with the light board removed. The truck wires closest to the bottom of the picture are the right rail side. Even though to base model wires are black, the standard DCC color for this is red and will be connected with a red wire. The top truck wires are the left rail are properly black and will be connected with a black wire. The motor connectors are the copper strips shown on the left side of the motor. The one that connects to the top of the motor pointing down will be connected to the orange wire in the circuit. The connecting the motor bottom the shown pointing up in the picture. This one. Will be connected to the grey wire in the circuit.
This picture shows the motor separated from the chassis. Here electrical tape has been put on the pad where the motor will sit. The motor will not touch this pad when assembled. The plastic mounts hold the motor above this pad. The tape eliminates the potential of any arcing short between the motor and the
The LED’s are glued to the back of remaining headlight and number board glass. This picture shows that the LED’s are brightly lighting the boards and headlights.

The progress on this Rail Pro and sound installation is moving along nicely. As always, send questions to ggnlars@verizon.net.
