3-11-20 clean, tune & adjust

Initiated the process to identify if this will improve engine performance And grade and train length capability.
the process to be followed is as follows:

where appropriate-

1 clean the contact surfaces in the drive train of the engine. This includes the tower gear, the truck gears and posts and surfaces, the electrical contact surfaces and the wheels.

2 the pieces will be adjusted to remove any excess drags. This will include the bearing alignments, the gear burrs, drive shaft alignments, wheel axle orientation and wheel gauge.
3 the bearings & gears will be lubricated with a low viscosity plastic friendly oil.
This should minimize the internal torque loss and improve the electrical contact. It will be interesting to see how the performance changes.

This process will be applied to five engines that have been recently examined in the grade & train length tests. These engines are as follows:

1 P2K NP SE1200

2 Atlas China SP&S RS-3
3 Atlas Kato NP Rs-11
4 Rapido CN RS-18

5 ScaleTrains “Operator” BNSF SD40-2

This will give a good indication of This impact on engines. Two of these engines are new from the factory. The other three have varing degrees of use.
more to come.
